[An excerpt from our newsletter] Have you ever had one of those moments where life gently poke you about something… and then the next day it’s tapping louder… and then suddenly three different people are telling you the exact same thing? That’s been me lately with Ho'oponopono. You might have come across this practice already. It is traditionally shared across different communities in Hawai'i for many beautiful healing purposes and situations: reconciling conflicts between family members, asking for forgiveness, purifying illnesses, even restoring balance with nature. There are many practices and approaches that can support similar healing intentions. Why am I sharing about Ho'oponopono? Last month, I got the nudge to bring this practice into our Root Energy Soundbath (before this, the theme has been set around forgiveness and grace). I hadn’t practiced it deeply before, but I thought, “Well… let’s see what happens.”. I trust the nudge. So at the gathering, all of us were contemplating on most well-known short version: I'm sorry Please forgive me I love you I'm grateful Since then, 3 different practitioner friends have mentioned that they’ve been practicing/teaching Ho'oponopono too! I thought.. well then okay… something’s moving here. The Saggie in me spiralled into a deep dive rabbit hole and found that Ho'oponoponois awesome for healing karmic imprints: those repeating patterns in relationships, emotional loops, even generational patterns we inherited. This makes a lot of sense because I observe that there have been a lot of us taking on the journey of healing family cycles and echoes. There’s something very radical, aaand soft, about choosing acceptance and reconciliation over blame, resistance, or running away. Not always easy… but deeply freeing. It's like opening our cluttered closet and instead of complaining, we simply agree that we were the one collecting all these things. Some of those we don't even remember, but yeaa.., it was us who got them. A healing practitioner friend introduced me the long prayers by Kahuna (healer) Morrnah (1913 - 1992), who helped bring this practice into the modern world. My friend shared that she had been practicing them daily for years, and had seen so many positive changes to herself and her families (both sides, plus bonus in-laws).I listened to the prayers she shared, and it lands differently!! This is one of Morrnah's prayers, maybe you have come across it already: If you decide to give Ho'oponopono a try, you can make time to connect with the prayers everyday, in your own way. There are a few different versions of the prayers and the practice out there, and I believe that as long as you are grounded with your intentions, the practice will bring results. At the same time, I am not qualified to teach/facilitate the proper, traditional way of doing this practice, so I am only sharing from my intuition and limited research ;> I plan to work with this beautiful practice for the month of April and see what unfolds. If you have experience and insights with Ho'oponopono, do share with me I'd love to hear! |
